Lingual “Hidden” Braces
Concealed braces, also known as Lingual and/or Invisible Braces, are the best and only non-visible form of fixed orthodontic therapy. Invented in 1979 by the late Dr. Craven Kurz in Beverly Hills, Lingual Braces have continued to evolve making them a truly reliable form of orthodontic therapy by utilizing principles similar to those of traditional braces.
Special instrumentation, equipment, doctor and staff training are required for this technique. These braces can be used on both arches or in combination with outside clear braces on the lower teeth as shown.
Are Lingual Braces more uncomfortable than outside braces?
Initial discomfort is similar to that of outside braces. The difference is that the Lingual Braces will affect the tongue and conventional braces will affect the cheeks and lips. Patients take approximately 1-4 weeks to achieve a good comfort level.
Are Lingual Braces more expensive?
Yes, they may cost more than conventional braces. Lingual Braces are specifically made to each patient's teeth and require special Doctor and Staff training.
Does the treatment with Lingual Braces take longer than outside braces?
No, treatment time is comparable to that of outside braces and sometimes even shorter. Some cases respond more efficiently to Lingual Braces due to certain mechanical advantages of the appliance.
Can anyone get Lingual Braces?
Most patients are good candidates for Lingual Braces. There are a few exceptions. Your orthodontist will determine the type of braces most beneficial for your treatment.
Will Lingual Braces affect my speech?
Yes, initially all orthodontic appliances have some effect on the patient's speech. The amount will vary depending on the patient's dental arch form and tongue position. In most patients this will be temporary and of short duration.
Members of the American Lingual Orthodontic Association are among the most qualified professionals to treat your case with Lingual Braces.

Ceramic “Clear Braces”
Ceramic braces are made of translucent (clear) material. They are most popular with adult patients, due to their cosmetic appeal.
Ceramic braces utilize less noticeable brackets for patients concerned about aesthetic appearances. Ceramic brackets are translucent, so they blend in with your natural tooth color. This means that unlike traditional stainless steel braces, with ceramic braces your smile will not look ’metallic.’ In addition, ceramic brackets are designed so that they won’t stain or discolor over long periods of time.

TMJ Treatment
The “Temporomandibular Joint,” more commonly referred to as the “jaw joint,” assists in the basic opening and closing movements of the jaw. Unfortunately, this joint is a common area for recurring pain. Although conventional wisdom suggests that “popping” sounds in the jaw indicates a TMJ dysfunction, this is not always true. Many times, your jaw is functioning properly even if a “popping” sound is present when chewing or talking.
We offer a TMJ exam that evaluates the joint tissue in the “hinge” of the jaw. Possible problems include swelling, deterioration of the joint tissue or damaged joint tissue (which cushions the jaw bones during the opening and closing movement of the mouth). Common pain relievers and cold compresses can provide temporary relief for most cases of TMJ.
For more serious cases of TMJ, we will recommend alternate treatments. Often, we will suggest using a mouth guard to relieve teeth grinding. In some cases, we will instruct you to use orthodontic appliances or retainers to alleviate discomfort or redirect positioning of the TMJ joint. For the most severe cases of TMJ, we may recommend certain invasive procedures.

Orthognathic Jaw Surgery
Corrective jaw surgery (orthognathic surgery) treats and corrects abnormalities of the facial bones, specifically the jaws and the teeth. Often, these abnormalities cause difficulty associated with chewing, talking, sleeping and other routine activities. Orthognathic surgery corrects these problems and, in conjunction with orthodontic treatment, will improve the overall appearance of the facial profile.
Using the latest in digital imaging technology, we will demonstrate the overall functional and aesthetic benefits of orthognathic surgery. Computerized treatment planning minimizes treatment times, recovery periods and the overall efficacy of your surgery. State-of-the-art materials such as titanium plates and miniature screws provide stability, strength and predictability to your treatment. These advances in technology, procedures and equipment reduce post-surgical recovery time, thus allowing patients to return to their normal routines soon after the surgery.
Orthognathic surgery may be unnecessary if orthodontic treatment can correct the problem. With the latest advances in orthodontics, this is sometimes the case. We will determine if orthognathic surgery is the correct treatment option for you.
