Dr. Allen S. Garai
Dr. Allen S. Garai received his post-doctoral training at Rochester, NY, where he completed a one-year residency in advanced education in general dentistry, and continued with a two-year specialty in orthodontics at Eastman Dental Center at the University of Rochester. This is recognized as one of the top orthodontic residency programs in the country.
While at Eastman, he dedicated time to study facial growth in patients with craniofacial abnormalities under the supervision of Dr. J.D. Subtelny who is one of the pioneers in the orthodontic treatment of patients with this condition.
Dr. Garai has been awarded the honorary title of “Diplomate” by the American Board of Orthodontics. This is the only orthodontic specialty board recognized by the American Dental Association. Dr. Garai has served as attending faculty and taught lingual “invisible” orthodontics in the post-doctoral orthodontic program of Children’s National Medical Center and Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.
In his free time, Dr. Garai enjoys playing soccer and various sports. He is also a sponsor to several area youth leagues. He and his wife Sherry have three children.

Dr. Garai has been practicing orthodontics for more than 15 years, and is privileged to have created thousands of individualized beautiful smiles. He has at least 15 years of experience in Invisalign® and been recognized as a “Elite Provider” in 2014 and 2015.
Over 15 Years of Teaching Orthodontics
Dr. Garai has been teaching orthodontics, covering clinical and didactic studies, at Children’s and Washington Hospital Center’s orthodontic departments. Thus, he is always up to date with the latest treatments.
Lecturing and Teaching Lingual Orthodontics
Dr. Allen Garai has had a special, two-year formal residency training in lingual orthodontics under one of the pioneers of lingual “hidden” orthodontics. He has more than 15 years of experience in treating patients with lingual braces and has been teaching lingual orthodontics at Children’s/Washington Hospital Center Department of Orthodontics since 1998.
Dr. Garai has been recognized as “One of leaders in Lingual Orthodontics in the Washington area” by Washingtonian magazine. He has presented lingual treatment cases at the National American Orthodontic Association meeting. Dr. Allen Garai has been featured on NBC 4, A New Me TV show, and News Channel 8.

Dr. Karen Tratensek
Dr. Karen Tratensek received her dental degree from the University of Maryland, School of Dentistry. She completed a two-year orthodontic residency at Georgetown University School of Dentistry, which qualifies her as an orthodontic specialist. She was additionally awarded the post-doctoral degree of Master of Science by Georgetown.
She has more than 20 years of experience in private practice and has treated thousands of patients both adults and children. Dr. Trarensek has also over 10 years of orthodontic teaching experience.
Dr. Tratensek is an attending faculty orthodontist of the post-doctoral orthodontic residency at Washington Hospital Center/Children’s Hospital in Washington, D.C. She supervises residents in their didactic (literature review) and clinical training. She is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO), The American Dental Association (ADA), the Southern Association of Orthodontists (SAO), The Virginia Dental Association (VDA) and the Northern Virginia Dental Society (NVDS).
Dr. Chad Rasmussen
Dr. Chad Rasmussen is a Wisconsin native and received his dental degree from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. He practiced general dentistry in Minnesota and Wisconsin for twelve years and was named one of the areas top dentists by Mpls.St.Paul Magazine. While practicing dentistry he also served as an adjunct Assistant Professor for Comprehensive Dentistry at the U of M, teaching third and fourth year dental students. Dr. Rasmussen was awarded his specialty certificate in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics from Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. where he was chief resident and trained under Dr. Garai and Dr. Tratensek.
Dr. Rasmussen currently serves as staff orthodontist and residency coordinator for Washington Hospital Center's two-year resident-training program. He is also an attending orthodontist, orthodontic instructor for pediatric dental residents, and craniofacial service team member at Children's National Medical Center.
